"… Zlatna Greda is like a lost village in green space. Hidden in the heart of a forest, it looks like our imaginative forest houses from fairytales…"
Mirko Hunjadi, Baranja (itinerary)
Eco centre Zlatna Greda was founded in 2003. as a project of Ecological association “Green Osijek" (NGO). Project’s goal was to preserve natural resources and cultural values of the Middle Danube region and Kopacevo wetland through education of public and eco tourism development.
Until now, numerous projects have been implemented from which all of them had a purpose of sustainable use of natural resources through schools in nature, eco and rural tourism as well as involvement of local population.
Eco centre Zlatna Greda is located in Zlatna Greda wilderness. Building was built in the second part of 19th century and is located on the 10 500 m2 estate area. Although the building isn’t completely renewed with its part of infrastructure it can offer variety of contents. As a part of estate you can find park, playground, wooden gazebo for 50 people, wine cellar, admission centre and workshop polygon.
Every visit and use of its contents will ensure implementation of Eco centre’s final vision: rebuilding facility that will have capacity of 50 beds, traditional restaurant, classrooms and old crafts workshop as well as to function through sustainable-development solutions (compost, waste separation, renewable sources of energy and natural materials) and be decorated in natural and traditional ambience.
So far, project was supported by a large spectre of volunteers; domestic and international institutions that enabled purchase of necessary equipment and Eco centre completion.
Tourist agency Zlatna Greda Ltd. was founded in 2006.
Eco centre’s guides are people with long-range experience in working with various groups of tourists. Wide range experience in knowing nature, people, tradition and their enthusiasm will make your visit exciting, fun, educational and profound.

Nature park Kopacevo wetland
Kopacevo wetland is the biggest preserved natural flooded area on Danube (satellite picture). It’s spread on 23 000 hectares between rivers Danube and Drava and is one of the biggest fluvial wetland valleys in Europe and because of that has been listed in 1993 as one of internationally valuable wetlands according to Ramsar Convention.
By now, in Kopacevo wetland there have been notes to about 285 bird species, more than 400 species of invertebrates and 44 types of fish. Many of them are globally endangered species like, for example, white-tailed eagle, black stork and prairie hawk. It’s not rare to come across on deer herds, wild pigs and otters. More on www.kopacki-rit.com.
This natural area is a meeting point to many nature lovers, pupils and students, adventure seekers and ornithologists who want to see the last wetland wilderness on the Danube.
Baranja
Eastern Croatian valley is located between Drava and Danube. Croatian version of the word Baranja was made from word “bara” which means “swamp” and is connected with wetland areas alongside rivers Drava and Danube. The title is characterised by uniqueness and rarity of the whole area.
63% of Baranja area is occupied by very damply, flooded lowland for which the most familiar one is Kopacevo wetland. Whole different cultures and ethnic groups that live in this area have left a mark and have contributed to Baranja diversity that can be seen on every visit to this colourful area.
In the last 8 years, as a side-effect of preserved natural and cultural Baranja heritage, rose a tourist offer that can offer visits to the village tourist households, hostels, biking routes, hiking paths, practicing old crafts, enjoying gastronomic offer, visits to Kopacevo wetland, driving in horse carriage, riding in nature, festivals...
